BBC Fiji Teams
Over a number of years, Bethlehem Baptist has developed a growing relationship with various parts of Fiji, one in particular is the village of Vutia near Nausori. Kadavu Provincial School & Taveuni Island. This relationship has been formed through the regular sending of teams & individuals. Teams are sent for the following primary purposes :
- To share that Christianity is a daily walk and relationship with Jesus Christ and that our churches are a place for teaching and community but attending will not bring relationship and salvation in Jesus Christ.
- Challenge and expose individuals to Gods hand in mission work and expose them to a different culture.
- To provide opportunity to share the gospel and encourage the Fijian's to also extend them selves to 'mission' to adjacent villages.
- To challenge all those who enter the mission field to exam life's core values from Christ's perspective.
- To contribute to the long term self sufficiency of Fijian people and their communities.
Our other current areas of involvement in Fiji ;
Kadavu- Kadavu Provincial School
Campbell Hill runs children's camps on Kadavu during a school holiday time and is looking for sponsorship for some of the young people from Suva that helped, to come to NZ for training. He is also currently working with an Indian Pastor in Raki Raki to work in that area too.
Taveuni-
Kees and Ineke van Laar work in a hospital on Tavenui with treatment of the eyes, cataracts removed among other things. They are working with an International team to accomplish great results.
Vutia- Community of five villages on the Rewa River, Suva.
The regular involvement with this small group of villages has led us to understand the primary area we can currently assist is:
- Health - all aspects of the health system needs support, from building medical facilities to targeted medical assistance e.g. targeting specific illness like scabies, high blood pressure, diabetes. Health & Wellbeing education is a high priority with workshops and life style being taught and demonstrated in the community. We have a strong link and commitment to the Local Nausori Health Centre and support them in outworking current health objectives they have for their people in these villages.
- Community: Business - A Micro enterprise scheme would facilitate and stimulate self sufficiency. Provide some mechanisms for food (for assistance in the health programme objective) to be provided to school children through micro enterprise and employment of local people. The building of relationships between village communities, individuals and churches for the greater wellbeing of all in the Vutia community.
Building projects-these range from building that is related to an objective in other areas of our overall project to work on individual homes for health and wellbeing purposes. - Schools -Here we aim to recognize opportunities, provide resources and, where possible, people to bring a better level of educations to children of all ages. Currently Teacher sponsorship, school resources, Student Scholarships, school upgrading and further building are projects unfolding.
- Evangelism - our aim is to build a strong community of Fijians who have a daily relationship with Jesus. Our involvement is in facilitating the different churches in the community to work together for Christ, support each other and each others church families. We run bible studies and seminar days for different groups in the community. Our team lead worship, drama and testimonial times in the church services and village gatherings. Training for church leadership and resources are a current need in this community. We believe that Vutia will also become a community of mission minded people serving not only their own community but also "out on the mission field".
How can I help?
There are many areas we have been asked to assist with by the Fijians but to achieve all that we hope we need prayer, people, funding and supplies. If you are interested in getting involved or finding out more then please contact us.
